NEWSPAPERS READING ..

 The best way to start the preparation is through newspaper. There is no better alternative then newspaper. In fact, newspapers are the single most important source of information that can get you through the exam!

Take any one newspaper, to start with, and read it thoroughly. The Hindu is the most popular suggestion for the choice of newspaper but other papers can also be followed to list;

1. The Hindu

2. Indian express 

3. Economic Times 

Read the newspaper religiously, every single day. This has to became a habit, newspaper is from now, a part of your daily routine.

You can start the with reading everything from the newspaper, and then slowly try make selective reading, which will come naturally after some days. Try not to go into much of political news, but rest of all of them are always useful to read. some of the section to cover ( not in any order ) 

* National and social events 

* International 

* Economics and business 

* Editorial and Op-Ed 

* Opinions and discussion 

* Sports 

It does take quite a bit of time to complete the newspaper, anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, or more. don't worry on the time as such, though you can try and reduce the time taken, slowly. Time saved this way should be utilized for more background study as mentioned above, to get better understanding of subject.

Geography :

 Geography as a subject, especially for UPSC examination, requires you to have a slightly scientific bent of mind. Science geography is a subject of locations, it is important to have an aptitude for understanding locations understanding maps, processes and theories. Choosing this subject without linking it for the sake of scoring in the exam may prove costly. First paper deals with world geography and the second paper deals with geography of India.  Preliminary exam preparation should be such that you should have no doubts about clearing the examination. The moment you come out of the examination hall, you should be able to find yourself certainly on one side, Whichever it is. Your preparation should guide you to find yourself well whichever it is . Your preparation should guide you to find yourself well above the cut-off, and not dilly-dallying near around the cut-off mark.
